Hey Jeff Jarvis, more words on exploding the conference scene. As Chris and Alex pointed out last week, all the [X]camps are a great example of the power & value of hungry up & comers to use social media tools...

Depends on the type of corporate conference. Certainly big trade shows like CES aren't threatened, but stuff like http://www.nofluffjuststuff.com/ (which is actually kind of fun) are certainly going to have to do some serious thinking. The realization that the people doing the work are the best ones to talk about it (as opposed to pseudo-expert celebrity commentators), and will talk at length for free if you just give them a venue, leads to some interesting consequences.

I wouldn't say this is replacing corperate conferences, just filling a niche that has been ignored.

Perhaps you haven't heard of this last and final (or?) type of camp.
Dan found it some time ago:

It reminds me of scientific conference and journals... Researchers have to pay editors to be published, and then to buy the proceedings from the editors to read their collegues' work!

Scientific publications also need some freedom from the big editors (Springer and the rest).
