[...] I noticed a post by Chris Messina mentioning a lack of health discussion in the ’sphere. It probably wasn’t meant to be a deep conversation starter, but it’s in head too. Nobody’s saying there aren’t wellness blogs or that you can’t buy yoga dvd’s at Amazon - It’s a big Internet. What’s missing is the personal hook.
Yo Chris,
There's always yoga for geeks, and there's more than excercise to wellness. If you are working for a living, what is the living that you're working for? Immersion in the social web can conflict with our personal lives, especially key aspects of personal lives that the world isn't going to care about, like one's health, personal goals and relationships, yada yada. Sometimes you gotta turn off the youtube and turn on the me-time. Don't wait for a surprise like a serious health issue, or a loved one leaving you, or a mental freakout or breakdown to be the wake-up call.

There are plenty of wellness blogs out there. I workout 3-5 x a week, was a personal trainer, a weight lifter, almost went amature bodybuilder at 275lbs @ 6%bf .. but that takes a helluva lot of effort to stay intense in fitness.

Now I'm married, we workout as we can trying to cut through a physical routine at least once a week. Doing the yoga thing at home..

The more I type this the more it sounds so weird to me that I'm not at least mentioning some of the trials and tribulations of staying balanced.

Lets see where is that endless list of shit to do and preach. [ x ] check.

*chuckles* Thanks for the idea / wake up. It's easy to lose sight of some of your world, and finding worthy ways of putting things to an audience takes a lot of time in general (all excuses I know I know).

Now get out there and keep that temple clean. Thermodynamic machines (our bodies) like to have regulation which is easiest through moderation.

I biked 60±10 miles in the past two days, but I think the world doesn't need to hear about my awesome biker tan/sunburn.

Hmm. I guess I'm all one big bundle of geeky humanity, so I lump it all together.

Buckshot blogging, that's what I say.

Even Cheney would agree with that!

I tend to keep non-geek stuff out of my geek blog because I figure the people who read that one don't care about my baby or my loss in the last 7 or 8 months of 60 pounds or whatever else I'm up to that doesn't involve pixels. I also try to keep the tech entries out of my personal blog. My geek blog features a link to my personal blog, and I figure that anybody who wants to know more about what a wonderful person I am can add my personal blog to their feed readers, daily click routines, etc.

You're right about the lack of health speak in the geekosphere - we noticed the same thing and are working on something to change that.
