It’s simple, it’s sweet, it does the trick and is pretty fast. It’s the Picasa Web Albums Uploader for Mac, announced today on Google’s corp blog. You can see it in action (not unironically) in this Flickr Set.

Article fails because it doesn’t mention that this program is not a standalone Picasa program, but rather WORKS FROM WITHIN IPHOTO. The standalone app is for uploading pictures directly from the image file. Neither are a Picasa program, which is implied.

Yeah, I was bummed too that it’s not a port of the Windows application, but the title is pretty clear: it’s simply an uploader. You still have to use the web application on the Mac.
And it is a Picasa application — it’s just not what you get on the PC. Which seems smart, given iPhoto’s dominance.
i guess my problem is the lack of photo tagging in iPhoto, without a keywords plugin of some sort. and the only one i’ve found is PPC only, as in, it crashes the crap out of iPhoto on my intel core duo imac.
how do you manage your photos? iphoto, and then selectively upload to flickr? or have you bypassed iPhoto altogether and use flickr exclusively?
Well, iPhoto is practically a roach motel for me… even though it interoperates well with the other Apple apps… I just can’t seem to use it effectively.
My workflow is typicallly: take a bunch of photos, dump them into iPhoto (sometimes in albums — but that’s haphazard), delete the bad ones, color correct a few of them, rarely select a bunch to upload with 1001 and then forget about them.
I *really* wish Apple added a tagging mechanism that worked — not some faux-taxonomy that you still have to predefine.
And, as with my screenshots, I actually typically go directly from my desktop to Flickr, deleting my local copy… I find that timely screenshots are more useful anyway, and, well, at this point, my harddrive is more likely to go (or get stolen) than Yahoo!’s!
