Thanks for this write-up, and all the thought and attention you gave to the matter. Being that Christopher Penn and I started PodCamp loosely based on what we loved about BarCamp's methods, we've launched into a similar space. We opensourced PodCamp as an experience directly after the first event, encouraging people to run their own, (thankfully, they have, and with some success).

But we've had those talks. What if *.evil came and co-opted the name to run a vendor-heavy event cloaked as an unconference? What will other groups running an event do that might visit ill will back on the original group?

Your conversation here, and the great links you gave to other posts and resources (I got SO excited, because I thought your link to Ori was going to uncover a blog I didn't know about- I've got his book), really helped enrich this.

Glad I read about your post on Twitter.
