Jyri is working on some interesting things -- turns out he's basically head of "Social" at Google, so he's got his hands in plenty of interesting things.

It's funny rereading this post now, a little over a year later. I think I was right on the substance of the thing, but of course in the meantime, Google did get involved in hardware with the G1 (they were making appliance servers at the time) but I was right in that, AFAIC, the G1 kind of sucks (compared to the iPhone).

Anyway, I still think that the socialization of presence is where it's at -- and clearly the current activity streams work factors directly into that!

Just re-read this post now that I've got more relevant context. I wonder what Jryi is up to these days. I saw him at the Open Stack meeting the other night, hopefully he's working on something cool and non-proprietary.

[...] Nice article about Google, Jaiku and the future (via Dragos), Nokia has been doing this for ages (at least 3 years back), too bad it never "took off" - the main reason for that is in my opinion not partnering with carriers to use their Nokia Presence Server.Nokia had also pioneered bluetooth social networking with Nokia Sensor, again a very old application, this also was never successful despite being backed by the famous mobile phone company, this should be a lesson to learn for the followers.
