AIMPages seems to be getting things right…

So from using open-source AJAX library DojoToolkit to creating and implementing the widget microformat, they seem to be doing some things right — of course my profile looks like arse, but the possibility for greatness persists.

  1. I like how it says

    “Religion
    Straight”

“Baby, I’m so straight I made my own religion about my straightness. I go to the straight temple every Sunday.” etc.

  2. We’re working on the arse bits now… hopefully, profile will be free of unwanted arse (I mean, if you want some tasteful arse, you’re welcome to include it…) in the very near future (along with more microformat support and better documentation of ModuleT).

  3. Speaking plain would have done wonders for me understanding what this blog post was about — it took me way to much time and I thought I spoke geek.

AOL’s AIM profile pages called AIMPages include the widget Microformat and use open-source tools to acheive this.

I still have no idea what the widget Microformat is.

  4. Sorry Lloyd — it was a sidebar entry, so I didn’t take too much time on it. Mostly was excited to see someone like AOL using Dojo.

The widget Microformat basically describes the classnames to use in your XHTML when identifying … what else? … widgets on a webpage — which, in the case of AIMPages, is just about every “block” of functionality or content!

  5. Thanks for the follow up Chris. I still don’t understand widget Microformat, even after starring really hard at http://developer.iamalpha.com/profile/ and willing myself to understand. Does widget Microformats help me as a user of AIMPages? Or only developers?

Kevin, in terms of fuss I find what WordPress.com has done with the sidebar is hawt. Is there opportunity for you to collaborate / use those modules?
