I have to admit, Sapotek did a nice job on DeskopTwo, but it’ll never be more than a geek’s demoware. Why? Extensibility, lack of cross-platform tie-ins (iMeem at least brings in other IM services but it’s still a walled garden). Sigh. We don’t need more desktop; we need more cloud. Via eHub.
I hear you but don’t agree. It’s only an early beta and from what I see, it’s not a web OS; rather it’s a webtop (slghtly scaled down from the more encompassing OS moniker). It’s got easy to use interfaces and is very solid… for an early beta. I’m excited to see what’s in the pipeline and I see far more people using it than just geeks. How’bout small businesses or, better yet, the many people in the world who rely on shared terminals (most people in the world in fact). Also, what about schools? Since it’s web-based, it’ll run on anything – thin client, white box, etc. – so I see potential if the desktop matures a little… but only a little. I like it very much. Beats goowy and some of the others I’ve seen.
Hmm. I appreciate what you’re saying. I guess I see room for a webtop ecosystem to emerge — and I’m eager to see where this kind of thing goes — I just don’t see that this implementation is it… but like you, I’m excited to see where this goes!
