Brian Del Vecchio pointed me to BostonWTF (Web Technology Forum) focused on the startup scene in Boston. All I can say is, “finally!” East coast reprznt!

Salt removes red wine
In the “random things you should know category”: Sprinkling generous amounts of table salt directly onto a red wine stain does wonders to remove it. I should know — it worked for me! Oh how I love thee interweb.
If I *did* buy a car…
…it’d likely be this new diesel-powered 2006 Honda Civic Si. I mean, voice recognition, a button to turn on the car and 55MPG?! Oh yes. I’ll take one. Via i.never.nu.
ALE: Ajax linking and embedding
Those Zimbra guys are so clever. Via O’Reilly, AJAX Linking and Embedding (ALE) “provides the ability to embed rich content into an editable document and to then interact with and edit that content in much the same way as it is done with traditional office suites and applications in a desktop environment. A key difference is that … the embedded objects are AJAX components that are embedded into an editable HTML document.” Download the 0.2 spec and check out the hosted demo.

You work for me, now shut the fuck up
Via Zak Greant, Tim Bray lays it down: “As a thought experiment, replace the word ‘blogging’ with ‘email’ or ‘conference presentation’ or ‘teleconference’ or ‘sales presentation’. Or ‘barroom conversation’ for that matter. Quick, quick, you wanna be safe, you better lock all your employees up and never let ’em say anything to anyone!” … “If your employees are going to say stupid things in public, you’ve got a management problem and a policy problem, not a blogging problem.”
Code search engine Krugle looks promising
Code search engine Krugle seems to be nearing its initial release and based on a screencast they put out a few weeks ago, it looks like it’s going to be a tremendous resource for developers.
Ironic though — and perhaps a vehicle for an academic attitudinal adjustment — Krugle may give rise to a level of productive and efficient code reuse that could hardly be attained before. Which is to say that the need to write original code anymore will certainly become… deprecated. Man, is copyright so obsolete or what?
Google employees’ wireless patents published
Looks like ads, ads and taking over your browser chrome is in the future of the GooglePlex, though they claim that their patents indicate nothing about their future plans. Clearly wifi is the next frontier in ubiquitous advertising.
